Juventus Weekly Release – April 18-24

Game Summaries

This week, Juventus won their Serie A match against Genoa 4-0, which now puts them 8 points ahead of second place Roma atop the Serie A standings, with just five games remaining. With coach Max Allegri choosing to rest many players who played earlier in the week, one player who did not rest was Paulo Dybala, who played the full 90 minutes and had a great game, scoring one of the club’s four goals. Even though they won by a four goal margin, Allegri said after the match that it was “not easy” for them to beat Genoa, after just playing on Wednesday. Juve will next take the pitch in Serie A action when they take on Atalanta on April 28th.

Also this week, Juventus tied with Barcelona 0-0 in their UEFA Champions League Quarterfinal game, advancing to the semi finals on aggregate 3-0. It was an outstanding defensive effort for Juventus as they did not concede a single goal to a high powered Barcelona squad in both legs. They will look to advance to their first UEFA Champions League final since 2015 when they take on Monaco in the semis on May 3rd.

Club News

The Champions League semi final draw was announced this week, and Juventus has to be slightly disappointed in it. They will face Monaco, and Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will face off in the other semi final. Even though Monaco is the less experienced club, Juventus has to think their best chance to defeat Real Madrid is in two legs. Real and Juve are the only two remaining clubs who are undefeated in the competition, and if it plays out that way, Juve will be playing a great club led by a red hot Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a hat trick in Real’s quarter final win.

Also this week, rumors have been stirring up that Juventus is a front runner to land 22 year old Lazio star Keita Balde Diao, but now it is being reported that AC Milan has jumped ahead of Juventus as the front runner to land him. This season, Diao has scored 11 goals in Serie A and is refusing to sign a new contract with Lazio because he feels the club has not treated him well. This will be interesting to see how Juventus responds if they let a young star like this go to their Serie A rivals.
